Former Australian cricketer Steve Waugh believes that Australia’s finest bowler in the upcoming Ashes series will be Scott Boland. From June 16 to July 31, 2023, the Ashes will be contested at five separate venues in England.
Since making his Test debut against England in 2021, the Victoria quick has taken 33 wickets at 14.57, the third-best average in history, and has an economy rate of 2.31, the second-best among seamers over the past four years.
Boland was instrumental in Australia’s recent World Test Championship (WTC) victory over India at the Oval in London, with match figures of 5-105. Boland’s relative lack of height enables him to move the ball off to a decent length and still hit the stumps on seaming pitches. He has the potential to help Australia win an Ashes series in England.
Waugh described Boland as an outstanding performer in the longest format of cricket. The 58-year-old believes the Victorian will play a crucial role in Australia’s upcoming Ashes attack. He also praised Boland’s bowling, which is consistently directed at the batter and strikes the pitch with force.
“He is a terrific bowler in Test matches. He can be our most effective attacker in this Ashes series. I just adore his bowling style. The West Australian quoted Waugh as saying, “He is constantly on the batsman and hits the ball incredibly hard.”
I am certain I will have an opportunity at some point. Scott Boland stated that it is his responsibility to continue to excel and make the task of the selectors challenging. He added that all he needs to do is continue doing his job and picking up wickets in order to receive an opportunity at some juncture. Due to ailments, Hazlewood has only played four Tests in the last two years, but he remains one of Australia’s most consistent bowlers.
“I am unsure if that is the case. It is my responsibility to continue performing and making the selectors’ task difficult. I’ve just got to keep doing my duty and keep taking wickets. If I can participate, that would be fantastic. Obviously, if I do not participate, I will be disappointed. “However, I am confident that I will have an opportunity at some point,” said Boland.
Boland continued by stating that he anticipated the attack to be rotated during the English summer, admitting that it would be challenging to play in all six Tests. Additionally, the 34-year-old stated that if there are one or two contests that last only two or three days, it simplifies matters.
“Previously, I completed six Shield contests in two months, and it was arduous. If one or two games are brief, such as two or three days, it makes things simpler. “However, everyone understands that we will be required to rotate,” he added.
