Women's T20 World Cup 2024: Scotland and Sri Lanka begin warm-up matches with wins

Scotland easily defeated Pakistan in their warm-up match to get ready for their first ICC Women’s T20 World Cup campaign. In order to set her side up for an eight-wicket victory, captain Kathryn Bryce claimed three wickets while her sister Sarah top-scored with 58 not out. Sugandika Kumari scored a hat-trick as Sri Lanka easily trounced Bangladesh in the other match of the day.

Bryce’s genius establishes Scotland

Scotland’s decisive victory over Pakistan in Dubai was largely due to the contributions of sisters Kathryn and Sarah Bryce. Pakistan was restricted by her older sister Kathryn, a medium-pacer who claimed three wickets for 22 in her three overs, including the last two wickets in consecutive deliveries.

After only four dismissals from Olivia Bell, Muneeba Ali and Omaima Sohail stabilized the ship with 27 and 30, respectively. Olivia Bell expelled the dangerous Nida Dar.

With a late cameo of 20 from 14 balls, captain Fatima Sana helped her side to 134 for nine from their 20 overs. In reply, Scotland were always in control as Saskia Horley left the game two runs shy of her half-century, taking the first wicket in the 12th over.

After skipper Kathryn came out to bat, Sarah Bryce claimed a fifty and ended up on 60 not out as Scotland managed to reach their goal with two overs remaining.

Sri Lanka’s Silva and Perera are excellent.

Hasini Perera and Nilashika Silva combined for 58 runs to propel Sri Lanka to a 33-run triumph over Bangladesh. With Sri Lanka scoring 39 from the first three overs, Harshitha Samarawickrama opened the batting with a quick 29.

After that, Perera added 43 more runs to the total, and Silva, scoring 30 runs off of 23 balls, helped the Asia Cup winners reach 123 for four in the 16th over.

Sri Lanka scored 143 for seven in the death over, but Bangladesh was able to limit the scoring. As a result, the Tigers’ top order found it difficult to advance; of Bangladesh’s top three strike rates, Shathi Rani’s 66.66 was the highest.

Then, with composure, captain Nigar Sultana pushed Bangladesh forward, but she found it difficult to find a partner as her team lost three wickets in two overs of play because Sugandika Kumari had left Bangladesh at 62 for seven in the thirteenth over.

Before Rabeya Khan was dismissed without having to face a legal ball and to confirm Kumari’s hat-trick, Kumari dismissed Shorna Akter and Ritu Moni in consecutive balls.

Disha Biwas eventually equaled Sultana after the two put up some late resistance. Sultana finished on 30 not out, 34 runs shy of Bangladesh’s total.
