Sarfaraz Khan, a batter from Mumbai, lit up the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025–26 with an incredible inning, blasting the fastest-ever List A half-century by an Indian cricketer. The record-breaking blitz happened at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground during the Elite Group C seventh-round encounter versus Punjab.
Sarfaraz broke the long-standing record set by Atish Sheth, who scored a 16-ball half-century against Chhattisgarh in 2021, and Abhijit Kale, who got a 16-ball fifty against Baroda in 1995, with an incredible 50 runs in just 15 balls. Additionally, this is the fourth-fastest half-century in List A cricket history. With a half-century off of 12 balls, Kaushalya Weeraratne of Sri Lanka holds the record.
After his younger brother Musheer Khan was dismissed, the 28-year-old went out to bat and didn’t take long to establish himself. On his way to his historic inning, the right-hand hitter relentlessly hammered the Punjab bowlers while in perfect form. In just 20 balls, he amassed 62 runs, including five massive sixes and seven magnificent fours.
Abhishek Sharma was severely beaten.
The Sarfaraz hit Punjab captain and all-rounder Abhishek Sharma for 30 runs against Mumbai, giving him the harsh taste of his own medicine. The team was defending 217 runs when the Punjab captain came in to bowl the tenth over.
Sarfaraz struck an incredible 30 runs off a left-arm spinner’s over, including three boundaries and as many sixes.
With openers Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Musheer contributing 57 runs in 8 overs, Mumbai got off to a great start in their inning as they chased a modest 217. Despite Sarfaraz’s valiant efforts, Punjab was able to successfully defend the low total after the 2020–21 champions were reduced to 169 for 3 due to a batting collapse.
With 303 runs at an average of 75.75 this season, Sarfaraz leads Mumbai in scoring, and the team is now ranked second in the Elite Group C Points Table. He even won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in 2025, scoring 329 runs at a remarkable strike rate of 203.8. He is not included in India’s squad across all forms, but he will play for the Chennai Super Kings in the 2026 Indian Premier League.
