After receiving his first call-up from Hyderabad for the Ranji Trophy, India’s main domestic first-class cricket competition, young cricketer Elligaram Sanketh cried with pleasure. After participating in age-group cricket for the squad, he received a call from Hyderabad. He made his T20 debut in November 2021 and his maiden List A match the following year.
Because he lost his mother when he was nine years old, the left-arm bowler’s career as a cricket player is quite traumatic. The 24-year-old said that he has been carrying out his “mum’s dream alive” ever since her death. She had wished for him to become a cricket player.
“I started playing cricket when I was 12 years old, and I represented Hyderabad in all age groups (U14, U16, U19, and U23). Now, I’m also a member of the Ranji team,” News18 cited Sanketh as saying.
“(Talking about how cricket happened to him.) It’s an emotional story. When I was nine, my mother was in her hospital bed, and she wished to see me become a cricket player. That was, in fact, her final request. Her illness was cancer. So, I’m preserving my mother’s dream,” a tearful Sanketh said.
A call-up for the Ranji Trophy was not something I truly anticipated, Sanketh.
Elligaram Sanketh added that 2023, when he made his List A debut, was a milestone year for him. He has so far averaged 24.00 while claiming 12 wickets in 7 games. Unfortunately, he had an ankle injury and was out for a while. In addition, Sanketh said that he had not expected to be called up for the Ranji Trophy.
“Last season, I debuted on List A. For me, that year was a turning point. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, I took a lot of wickets, but I injured my ankle immediately following the competition. That means I was not able to play for the Deodhar Trophy. After a year-long hiatus, I returned to cricket this year. Just in front of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, I went back to bowling. I’m starting to find my rhythm again now. Sanketh said, “I’m happy to be a member of the Ranji Trophy squad, even though I wasn’t really expecting to be called up.
