Cricketer Sanju Samson was dropped from the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024–25 by the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) after he indicated that he would not be attending the preparatory camp for Kerala. Rishabh Pant was chosen for the Champions Trophy 2025 squad instead of the wicketkeeper-batter by India’s selectors because of his non-participation in the home league.
With Samson in scorching form, the KCA recently explained why they didn’t select him for the 50-over event, and the entire episode has descended into controversy. Interestingly, Sanju was anticipated to play for Kerala after a strong home series against Bangladesh and the subsequent South Africa tour.
In response to the state association’s statement, Sanju Samson Vishwanath, the cricketer’s father, has defended his son and accused the board.
There are individuals in KCA who harbour animosity against my child; we have never before voiced our disapproval of the association, but this time it has gotten out of hand. As stated by Mathrubhumi English, “Sanju isn’t the only player who didn’t attend the camp, but other players in the same situation were allowed to play.”
“We are athletes who are not interested in the business of sports; it is not about Vinod S. Kumar, the board secretary, or Jayesh George, the president of the KCA; it is about the little individuals in between who poison everything over insignificant issues. My only want is that my son be allowed to play fairly. He continued, “We’re willing to talk about it and are prepared to correct any errors.”
Samson’s next appearance will be during the forthcoming Twenty20 International series against England. Alongside Abhishek Sharma, the stumper-batter is anticipated to start. He will be hoping to maintain his form in the game’s shortest format in order to help India score important runs. On the South Africa trip, the star cricketer won Player of the Series, and Samson should have a similar showing in the England series.
