Raiphi Gomez, Sanju Samson‘s coach and mentor, has made a statement regarding the former’s technical ability to bat at any position during the 2025 Asia Cup.
Even though Sanju Samson is a member of India’s 15-man team, Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma are probably the favourite duo to open the batting in the 20-over competition. “But Samson can also bat lower down the order,” Gomez said.
As a professional player with a solid international reputation, Sanju Samson is adaptable enough to bat lower in the order if necessary. The Telegraph cited Gomez as stating, “He is very confident about his abilities, and his flexibility is what guides him.”
According to Gomez, the claims that Sanju Samson is “under pressure” are only a media fabrication.
Additionally, he commended Samson’s batting performance in the current Kerala Cricket League (KCL). In the KCL, Samson plays for the Kochi Blue Tigers. In the season-opening match against Kochi, he was not needed to bat. As of August 26, he had scored 6 off 3, 89 off 46, and 121 off 51 in the other three games.
Has Sanju Samson mentioned feeling pressured in any way? No. Therefore, we don’t really care what others are saying outside because it’s all outside noise. Our goal is to ensure that Sanju continues to improve as a batsman. All he cares about is the work he must accomplish for India. Every cricket player experiences what transpired in the England T20Is as part of the game. He then spent the required time at the BCCI Centre of Excellence to recover from his IPL injury, and he now seems to be in good rhythm while participating in these KCL games,” he continued.
In February 2025, Samson made his final appearance for India. With just 51 runs in five innings, he endured a disappointing T20I series against England. Sanju Samson later had a start-stop season for the Rajasthan Royals in the 2025 Indian Premier League, scoring just 285 runs in nine games.
