'Akash Deep in, Harshit Rana out'- Sanjay Manjrekar's suggestion to India for Brisbane Test

The inclusion of Akash Deep in the eagerly anticipated third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 was proposed by Sanjay Manjrekar. The Bengal bowler, who performed mediocrely in the second Test in Adelaide after making an impression in his debut Test in Perth, could replace Harshit Rana in the starting lineup, according to the former India cricket player.

The top wicket-taker in the five-match series, Jasprit Bumrah, has been relied upon excessively by India.

If the surface at the storied Gabba plays up to its potential, Sanjay Manjrekar believes that Akash Deep’s return to the playing XI might give the 31-year-old much-needed help.

Australia’s decisive victory of the second Test by ten wickets has put pressure on India’s bowling attack. In order to resurrect their World Test Championship (WTC) campaign, the Asian giants must recover well in the third Test.

“Harshit Rana shouldn’t suffer any harm. But that may happen, I believe. Akash Deep can be the fourth seamer if it’s an all-out pace pitch, but I’m only trying to read the team management’s thoughts. India must therefore give that careful thought. The Manjrekar

“If Brisbane’s pitch is going to be as flat as Adelaide’s, then this bowling lineup of Bumrah, Siraj, Harshit Rana, or Akash Deep is beginning to seem a little insufficient. Otherwise, it ought to suffice,” he continued.

The pace three of Mohammed Siraj, Harshit, and Bumrah was India’s mainstay in the first two Test matches played in Australia. Nitish Reddy, the supporting seamer, has performed admirably. The Indian supporters are worried about Siraj and Harshit’s inability to put on a strong show in Adelaide. Given his outstanding results in the upcoming Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024, several have voted for Mohammed Shami to return.

Saturday, December 14 is when the third Test starts. The visitors will aim to learn from their loss in Adelaide and turn things around in the River City.
