'Virat and Rohit are not in their prime' - Sanjay Manjrekar shares his thoughts on Indian red ball side ahead of the Australian tour

The anticipation for the highly anticipated series is undoubtedly increasing in line with expectations as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25 draws closer every day. Many analysts and former players have discussed the tactics that are expected to be used and how the two teams should arrange themselves for the five Test matches in terms of resource allocation.

In his remarks, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar expressed his belief that both captain Rohit Sharma and star batsman Virat Kohli were “not in their prime.” He mentioned one guy in particular that he believed was now playing to the best of his abilities.

“This one could be difficult. It is fair to say that Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal, among others, must step up because Virat and Rohit are not at the top of their game. Manjrekar said, “The only player who I think is in his prime and a very important player is Rishabh Pant.

Comparing Australia’s and India’s bowling lineups, Sanjay Manjrekar

The former cricketer turned pundit believed that India’s bowling assault was secured. Australia did not seem to have the same bite as it formerly had.

India is taken care of. Regarding Australia, Manjrekar said, “Its former aura and skill, which made them seem like champions in every game they played, are no longer there.

Australia will be starting the series after playing their final red-ball match in March, while India will be entering the Border-Gavaskar Trophy off the back of five Tests since the end of the T20 World Cup 2024.

But a few of their red-ball regulars have turned to Sheffield Shield to hone their abilities. Australia would have the responsibility of proving their mettle after losing their last two Test series against India at home (2020–21 and 2018–19).
