Sanju Samson has visited the Centre of Excellence (CoE) of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to obtain permission to preserve wickets. On Monday, March 31, the India ‘keeper-batter took a plane from Guwahati to Bengaluru in order to obtain the CoE managers’ complete approval.
After undergoing surgery on his right index finger, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals was first only given a temporary and partial clearance to participate in the current IPL. He will now be tested by the CoE’s Sport Science wing and ask for permission to return to his full responsibilities.
Samson will also return as captain if he is allowed to keep wickets.
He gave Riyan Parag the captaincy due to the partial clearance, and he participated in the Royals’ three games this season as an Impact Player. According to sources, he feels well enough to resume his wicket-keeping responsibilities now that his thumb injury has completely healed. “He will seek clearance to do so for the remaining games and is expected to be back as skipper from the RR’s next match, which is nearly a week away,” according to a source.
In the three games he has played thus far, Sanju has scored 66 runs against SRH, 13 against KKR, and 20 against CSK while playing only as a hitter and not fielding, as opposed to an impact player. Dhruv Jurel took wickets for the squad when he was away. The India “keeper-batter” is anticipated to return to his position behind the stumps and take up captaincy if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) facility gives him the all-clear.
After dropping their first two IPL games, the Royals had a mixed start to the season. On Sunday night, they defeated the Chennai Super Kings in Guwahati to start the season. On April 5, they will travel to play Punjab Kings, and on April 9, they will go to Ahmedabad to play Gujarat Titans. On April 13, the team will play their third home game against RCB after returning to their native base in Jaipur.
