Indian left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat was the county side’s standout performer in a match that may potentially guarantee Sussex’s promotion to the first flight of the Vitality County Championship. Sussex had defeated Glamorgan for just 186 runs on the first day of their match at Hove thanks to the paceman’s outstanding 4 for 52 in the first innings.
A cloudy autumn morning saw Sussex strategically choose to bowl first as they looked to secure their seventh victory of the season. Unadkat struck early, taking down Asa Tribe with just his third delivery, therefore this decision proved to be critical. Unadkat’s spell was the best part, but his fellow seamen did a great job supporting him. Tom Clark and Henry Crocombe both contributed significant wickets to keep the pressure on the Glamorgan batting team. Ollie Robinson, an England pacer, was wicketless during his initial nine overs but still managed to keep the opposition guessing.
With a fighting 56, Kiran Carlson gave Glamorgan some hope, but his teammates weren’t too supportive. Dan Douthwaite’s 41-minute late cameo gave Glamorgan a moment of reprieve, but Unadkat’s return to the attack quickly put an end to any dreams of a comeback. The Indian pacer dismissed Andy Gorvin for a four-ball duck, effectively pulling the opposition’s tail.
