Teenage sensation Sam Konstas has been selected for the Australia ‘A’ team to play India ‘A’ from October 31 to November 10, which has caused Matt Renshaw to suffer a setback. In a Sheffield Shield 2024 match against Western Australia, Renshaw scored six and fifteen points for Queensland.
Renshaw, who hit 414 runs in 12 innings for Somerset in the 2024 County Championship, was well-positioned to return to Test cricket and take Cameron Green’s spot in the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. But adolescent prodigy Konstas, who just became the youngest to hit twin tons in Sheffield Shield since Ricky Ponting’s 1993 achievement, was given a shot by the selectors.
The idea of using Renshaw’s batting skills in the future was not abandoned by chief selector George Bailey. “We still think Matt can play incredibly well. “As far as Australia ‘A’ selection is concerned, part of the process is trying to find opportunities that might arise in the near future, but we also make sure that we do keep an eye on developing opportunities,

Young Konstas was also praised by Bailey, who said he was “organized and composed.”
“Konstas’ first-class career has lasted five games. At the crease, he appears quite well-organized and calm. “His opportunity to play for Australia ‘A’ is a positive acknowledgement, but I don’t think it takes away from or diminishes the consistency of Cam Bancroft and Marcus Harris,” Bailey continued.
