Following their participation in the four-day matches in Lucknow, Xavier Bartlett, Campbell Kellaway, Sam Konstas, Nathan McSweeney, Lance Morris, Fergus O’Neill, Ollie Peake, Josh Philippe, and Corey Rocchiccioli will return for the inaugural Sheffield Shield round.
The 14-player men’s teams for Australia’s A tour of India next month have been announced by the National Selection Panel (NSP). Australia A will play three one-day games in Kanpur and two four-day games in Lucknow.
The squads were selected to allow for training for the domestic summer while also gaining exposure and experience on the subcontinent in the long run.
“The subcontinent offers many unique challenges and the opportunity to use different skills with bat and ball,” stated George Bailey, chair of the men’s selectors. For upcoming subcontinental tours, we expect that players will gain a better grasp of their game and a successful technique through repeated experiences in these conditions.
“We are still interested in the short form cricket development of many of these players, but we needed them back and available for the start of the Sheffield Shield season in order to balance our priorities,” Bailey stated.
“This gives the players who will play the one-day matches in Kanpur—Harry Dixon, Sam Elliott, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Mackenzie Harvey, Tanveer Sangha, Lachie Shaw, Tom Straker, Will Sutherland, and Callum Vidler—opportunities.”
