Jordan Cox scored his second consecutive half-century to lead Oval Invincibles to their fourth win in five games. Sam Curran and Rashid Khan helped Invincibles beat Southern Brave on Monday (August 18).
Brave never recovered from Jason Behrendorff’s early damage after being sent to bat. The Australian quick bowled James Vince and Leus du Plooy, then Tom Curran dismissed Laurie Evans on a strokeplay-unfriendly surface. Rashid Khan stunned Brave with three wickets in five deliveries, worsening things quickly.
Under pressure in the last two games, Rashid recovered well. He dismissed Jason Roy and Michael Bracewell from successive deliveries before trapping James Coles leg-before-wicket to reduce the opposition to 44/6. Their recovery to post 133 was impressive. Hilton Cartwright and Jordan Thompson scored 37 and 39 runs for the seventh and eighth wickets, respectively, before Curran bowled them out before they could bat out their 100 deliveries.
Craig Overton then tried to fight the ball as he dismissed Will Jacks and Tawanda Muyeye early in the run chase. The informed Cox and Sam Curran prevented future issues. After scoring 44 and 86* in his last two games, Cox started again by going 4,6,4 against Tymal Mills.
Sam Curran also challenged Thompson for successive boundaries to get into the groove.
After that, the combo was unstoppable. Sam Curran hit Bracewell for a massive six and Cox defeated Mills again to win. Mills got his man after Cox raised his fifty. The game was over when Sam Billings struck three boundaries and Curran finished off his own fifty. Invincibles topped the table with a convincing win with 11 balls to spare.
