Sairaj Bahutule quits as bowling coach in BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru

Sairaj Bahutule, the bowling coach at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and a former leg spinner for India and Mumbai, has resigned from his position for personal reasons. For the past three years, he has been employed at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

The 52-year-old has also occasionally been the bowling coach for the Indian team under NCA head coach VVS Laxman and former head coach Rahul Dravid. Following the Indian team’s victory in the T20 World Cup 2024,

The coaching staff changed, and Sairaj Bahutule served as the team’s temporary bowling coach until former South Africa pacer Morne Morkel was hired by the BCCI.

He assisted a number of young cricket players in improving their skills at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence. He tended to concentrate more on grassroots development. The Times of India received confirmation from the veteran that he was leaving the position. He attributed the choice to personal necessity and expressed gratitude to Laxman, head coach Rahul Dravid, and former BCCI Secretary Jay Shah for the chance.

“Yes, I resigned from the COE for family and personal reasons. I am appreciative of the chance to collaborate with India’s best spinners in a variety of forms, which was provided by former BCCI secretary Jay Shah, BCCI, Rahul Dravid (former head of COE), and VVS (current head of COE). I participated in at least 20 series and tours with the India/India A and India Under-19 teams. “I had a great three years at the NCA/COE, and I will always be available to the BCCI as a bowling coach,” Bahutule stated from Bengaluru.

It is noteworthy that during his six-year international career, which spanned from 1997 to 2003, Bahutule participated in two Test matches and eight One-Day Internationals for India. His first-class career is well-decorated, despite the fact that his international career did not flourish. He took 630 wickets in his 188 first-class appearances.
