SA vs PAK 2024-25: Saim Ayub ruled out for six weeks due to an ankle injury

In the second Test in Cape Town, where the South African batsmen have outscored the Pakistani bowlers, the Pakistani squad has been having trouble. With massive scores early in the game from Ryan Rickelton, Temba Bavuma, and Kyle Verreynne, the South African hitters are enjoying yet another fantastic day on day two.

In addition to losing one of their best players to injury during the match, Pakistan’s troubles don’t stop there. Aamer Jamal and Saim Ayub were observed pursuing the ball that Rickelton had edged on the opening day. Ayub was supposed to be the relay fielder when Jamal brought the ball back in, but he stumbled and hurt his ankle, sending him off the pitch.

Saim Ayub was immediately sent for scans, which verified the fracture. According to sources, he has been out for six weeks. The 22-year-old southpaw will also no longer participate in the current Test match as a result. He will not get the chance to make an impact in the second Test at the Newlands and was unable to convert his starts in the Boxing Day Test in Centurion, so this is a frustrating conclusion to the series for him.

The 2024 season for Saim Ayub

2024 was a fantastic year for Saim Ayub in white-ball cricket. With a remarkable strike rate of 143.67, he amassed 375 runs in T20Is and 515 runs in ODIs while playing nine ODIs and 19 T20Is. He hasn’t exactly had the greatest of days in the red-ball format, though.

Despite playing 14 Test innings, Ayub has only averaged 26 runs and scored 364 runs. With his greatest score of 77 against England in Multan, he has only three scores of 50 or higher.
