Saim Ayub Creates Unwanted Batting Record

In the Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match against Bangladesh in Dubai, Pakistani opener Saim Ayub recorded his fourth duck in six innings, continuing his dismal batting streak. The left-hander added another inning without making any impact after falling early once more.

In just the second over, Saim Ayub faced off-spinner Mahedi Hasan. He went down the track but was unable to make contact, giving Rishad Hossain a simple catch at mid-on. Pakistan was struggling at 5 for 2 in two overs after the dismissal. Saim Ayub recorded his ninth duck in 45 T20I innings, passing Umar Akmal (10), who now has the second-highest number of ducks in Pakistani history. He has now tied Richard Ngarava of Zimbabwe for the most ducks in a single calendar year with six in 2025 alone.

Saim Ayub has had a terrible Asia Cup campaign.

His troubles were exacerbated by Thursday’s three-ball duck after he had already suffered golden ducks against Oman and India in the group stage and a two-ball duck against the United Arab Emirates. His 21-run knock against India is still his only noteworthy tournament contribution; in his other five innings, he has scored a pitiful two runs.

Pakistan’s opening innings, meanwhile, was just as unsatisfactory. They only managed 135 for 8 in 20 overs after being sent in to bat first. By dismissing Sahibzada Farhan for four in the opening over, Taskin Ahmed handed Bangladesh the ideal start. Ayub came next, and then Fakhar Zaman was dismissed by Rishad Hossain after scoring just 13 off 20 balls.

Pakistan was 33 for 4 at the midway point. Mohammad Haris (31 off 23) and Mohammad Nawaz (25 off 15) made late appearances to help take the total above 130, while skipper Salman Agha (19 off 23) and Hussain Talat (3 off 7) attempted to stabilise. With a score of 19, Shaheen Shah Afridi contributed. Mahedi and Rishad each scored twice, while Taskin finished with 3 for 28.
