The Bangladesh Cricket Board released a 16-man squad for the forthcoming three-match series against Afghanistan in Abu Dhabi later this month, and Saif Hasan, the in-form batsman, received his first ODI call-up.
Litton Das will miss the white-ball series against Afghanistan because of an injury, as Cricbuzz previously reported. With two exclusions, the 16-man roster is essentially the same as the one that played in the ODI series against Sri Lanka earlier this year.
“Litton Das misses out as he continues his recovery from a side strain while Parvez Hossain Emon has been left out,” the BCB stated in a statement.
For the first time, right-hander Saif Hasan has been called up to the ODI setup.
Saif Hasan is anticipated to provide depth to the top order after a run of strong performances in recent T20 internationals, the statement continued.
To join the rest of the team, five players—Captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Hasan Mahmud, Tanvir Islam, and Nahid Rana—will depart for the United Arab Emirates tonight.
Md. Naim Sheikh, the left-handed opener, is still awaiting visa permission and will leave as soon as it is received. Soumya Sarkar, who was selected for the Bangladesh T20I team and is already playing in the series against Afghanistan, is also having trouble getting his visa approved, which has caused him to postpone his trip.
The Zayed Cricket Stadium will host the ODIs on October 8, 11, and 14.
