The youngest player to represent Lancashire in the County Championship was Rocky Flintoff, son of former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff. After scoring 32 runs in his maiden game, the 16-year-old was starting to settle into a groove, until Sai Sudharsan silenced the crowd. After losing both Luke Wells and captain Keaton Jennings, Lancashire was two wickets down for 33 runs in 11 overs.
Flintoff was watching from the stands as Rocky came out to bat and put up a 40-run stand for the third wicket with Bohannon. Having edged one to Tom Lawes at the third slip on 13, he was dropped, giving him a lifeline. However, he chopped off a ball from Clark’s delivery on the first ball after lunch, allowing Sudharsan to collect an incredible catch at backward point.

Rocky had stated upon agreeing to a first contract with Lancashire, “I’ve enjoyed playing for the Second XI so far this season and I’m looking forward to continuing to work hard on all aspects of my game.”

After being asked to bat first, Lancashire was knocked out for 204 in 59 overs. Surrey amassed 83 runs with 10 wickets remaining at the close of the first day. Day 1 ended early due to bad light, but Rory Burns was still unbeaten at 44, and Sibley paired him brilliantly at 37 runs.

Surrey will go into Day 2 full of confidence after Dan Worrall’s 3 for 31 and Jordan Clark’s 4 for 57 gave them a lower-than-average total to beat.
