Ranji Trophy 2024-25: Sai Sudharsan shines with blistering double century vs Delhi

On October 18, Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium hosted the Ranji Trophy 2024–25 match between Delhi and Tamil Nadu. Delhi won the toss and chose to bowl first on the first day of the game. N Jagadeesan and Sai Sudharsan got off to a great start at bat, posting 168 for the first wicket until Jagadeesan was dismissed by Navdeep Saini after 65 runs.

However, Washington Sundar, who was elevated in the hierarchy, joined Sai Sudharsan as a partner.

As Tamil Nadu finished Day 1 with a score of 379, the pair stayed undefeated. Sudharsan, meanwhile, achieved his first double century with 202 off 259 balls, which included 23 boundaries and one maximum. With 96 runs, including 12 boundaries and one maximum, Sundar, on the other hand, is edging closer to a century.

Sudharsan had five first-class hundreds and one score above 150 before to the double ton. At a strike rate of 77.99, he achieved his double century and formed an undefeated 211-run partnership with Sundar. In the Ranji Trophy, he became the fourth batter from Tamil Nadu to score a double-ton since 2015. Jagadeesan, Kaushik Gandhi, and Abhinav Mukund are the other three. It is important to remember that Jagadeesan has one triple ton under his belt.

Himmat Singh, the captain of Delhi, invited Tamil Nadu to bat first because there was a trace of grass on the field. The Tamil Nadu openers withstood the testing phase and amassed runs despite early ball movement by Himanshu Chauhan and Saini. Additionally, while Sudharsan was on 143, he was given lives twice, and on 77, a no-ball saved his day.
