Sai Sudharsan Ruled Out on Day 3 Due to Injury

The Indian cricket team will not have Sai Sudharsan on the pitch on the third day of the current Test match against the West Indies at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. For the uninitiated, on the second day of the game, he had a “impact injury.” An announcement from the BCCI’s media office on Sunday stated that “the injury is not serious, and he is doing fine”.

Fielding at forward short-leg, Sudharsan was hurt when John Campbell’s strong sweep struck the helmet grille and then landed in his hands. In the eighth over of the West Indian innings, this incident took place after India declared their first innings at 518/5 in 134.2 overs.

The announcement added, “The BCCI medical team continues to monitor him.”

Prior to this, Sudharsan had scored 87 off 165. The left-hander was 13 runs short of reaching his first international hundred. In his knock, Sudharsan hit twelve fours. Together, he and Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 193 runs, with Jaiswal scoring 175 off 258. Unfortunately, while batting alongside captain Shubman Gill, he was run-out.

The question of whether Sudharsan would bat was left unclear, though.

India’s first innings was declared at 518/5 in 134.2 overs, with Dhruv Jurel and Nitish Kumar Reddy out in their 40s and Gill remaining not-out at 129 off 196. Jomel Warrican claimed three wickets in thirty-four overs (3/98).

India won the series opener in Ahmedabad by 140 runs and an innings. The Player of the Match award went to Ravindra Jadeja because of his overall performance (104* and 4/54).
