Sai Sudharsan Credits Shubman Gill for Role Clarity at No. 3

In the current red-ball match against the West Indies in Delhi, Sai Sudharsan recently discussed how staying composed and quiet improved his performance.

While Sai Sudharsan scored 87 runs in the first innings of the second Test, he was only able to manage seven in the first Test.

The Southpaw stressed that remaining composed in the lead-up to the game was the reason for his cool 87-run knock. A strong series versus Australia A (two fifties and a hundred in three innings) boosted his confidence, he added. He was full of admiration for captain Shubman Gill for giving the former the right kind of role clarity. Additionally, the Southpaw commended his captain’s confidence as a positive quality.

“I wasn’t considering the game’s importance or pressure. My major concern was improving the innings because I had just finished a strong India A series. I tried not to think about anything else in order to maintain my composure and avoid being engrossed in the situation. I played a really calm innings. I had made the decision to take a little more time before the game and let things unfold organically instead of pushing them,” Sai Sudharsan  said on Amul Cricket Live.

Shubman clearly understood his position, and his trust in his ability to bounce back, turn starts into massive hundreds, and lead the team to victory is what I love most about him. The amount of conviction he plays with becomes clear when you get a close-up look at him. “I think I should learn from him that self-belief is such a crucial trait to possess,” he continued.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (173* off 253) and Gill (20* off 68) remain undefeated at the crease as India stands at 318/2 after 90 overs. Before taking a swing at the opposition, Gill and company will try to build on the foundation and score a healthy first innings total.
