Former cricketer Sachin Tendulkar advised new Test captain Shubman Gill ahead of the five-match Test series against England. Tendulkar advised Gill to stay focused and ignore extraneous noise as India prepares to start the new World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 cycle at Headingley on June 20.
Sachin Tendulkar stressed the importance of trusting one’s instincts and making bold decisions without outside influence.
He said people would always have something to say and that as a captain, you must stick to what was discussed in the dressing room.
“My advice to him would be to take those bold decisions and not to worry about the outside world so long as the decision is taken in the interest of the team,” Tendulkar was cited by Cricbuzz.
“Because people will have ideas and think he is overly attacking or defensive or this is not happening. He should follow the team’s interests and dressing room discussions, he said.
Gill should not worry about the outside world, according to Indian folklore. Tendulkar said dressing room decisions that benefit the team should be supported. He advised Gill to trust the process and put team goals before external comments.
That’s what counts most, and I’d tell him not to worry about the outer world. To support the dressing room and his team-focused decisions “Tendulkar remarked.
The 25-year-old will skipper India’s Test team for the first time. Tendulkar became captain aged 23 years and 169 days in 1996.
“They are different periods, hence no point comparing them to Indian cricket then and now. We must handle current events “Tendulkar concluded.
