A vital component of Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s SA20 2025 team was David Bedingham. In the third edition, he opened the batting and hit three quick knocks to assist the two-time champions reach the event final.
Current sources state that the right-handed batter and his fiancée, Jenna van Niekerk, were getting married this past weekend. He acknowledged, nevertheless, that he had inadvertently placed himself in a challenging position because the SA20 2025 was scheduled for Saturday, February 8.
In order to attend the summit clash, David Bedingham decided to postpone the wedding until Sunday.
Firdose Moonda, a cricket writer from South Africa, said Bedingham was lucky to have an alternative. “The wedding was booked and planned, but then SEC made the final, so now he has moved the wedding to tomorrow,” Moonda stated.
The Sunrisers had a fantastic opportunity to win three consecutive SA20 titles. They finished the league phase third in the standings after defeating the Johannesburg Super Kings in the Eliminator and the Paarl Royals in the Qualifier 2.
The final between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and MI Cape Town took place at The Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Saturday, February 8. After winning the toss, the latter decided to bat first. With bold blows from Ryan Rickelton, Connor Esterhuizen, and Dewald Brevis, Cape Town reached 181/8 in their 20 overs.
Sunrisers lost by 76 runs after being bowled out for just 105 in 18.4 overs. Tom Abell, who scored 30 runs off of 25 balls, was the top scorer for the losing team. However, Bedingham only managed to score five runs off of eight balls. Trent Boult won Player of the Match for his exceptional bowling statistics of 2/9 in four overs, despite Kagiso Rabada scoring four runs.
Marco Jansen won Player of the Tournament as he finished as the leading wicket-taker. He claimed 19 wickets at an average of 18.42 in 13 games.
