After signing a contract with Yorkshire, Indian batsman Ruturaj Gaikwad is ready for his first County Championship trip. He will remain in the UK until the end of the season and join the team before their match against Surrey in July. Gaikwad will play in the One-Day Cup as well.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is now with the India A team, has not been included in the starting lineup for either of the two matches against the England Lions. He hasn’t played cricket since suffering an elbow injury that kept him out of the IPL 2025 for most of it.
Ruturaj Gaikwad seems very eager to help Yorkshire win in both the red and white-ball forms.
“I’m thrilled to be playing for Yorkshire for the remainder of the domestic English season. My dream has always been to play cricket in this country, and Yorkshire is the biggest club in England. I am aware of how critical it will be for me to start strong during a pivotal period of the season. According to Cricbuzz, Gaikwad stated, “We have some important games in the County Championship and the One-Day Cup is a great opportunity to win some silverware.”
Gaikwad is a skilled cricket player with a natural all-around game. Head coach Anthony McGrath of Yorkshire seemed similarly thrilled to see Gaikwad join the club and showered the top-order batsman with accolades.
“Ruturaj Gaikwad joining us for the second part of the season makes me very happy. He is a very skilled cricket player with an all-around game that fits in nicely with the kind of cricket we wish to play. In addition to providing us with some added stability in our batting lineup, Ruturaj Gaikwad can score runs quickly when needed. “I know he’s a highly regarded talent throughout the game, and he’s an exciting one,” McGrath said.
Gaikwad is expected to represent Yorkshire as the fourth Indian. Yorkshire are currently sagging in Division One of the 2024–25 County Championship, sitting in ninth place. Whether Gaikwad’s signing has any impact on the team’s current situation will be interesting to see.
