Ruturaj Gaikwad equals record with 15th ton

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, star batter Ruturaj Gaikwad recently hammered a record-tying 15th century. Just days after being left out of India’s ODI selection against New Zealand, the Maharashtra captain accomplished the feat during his team’s last league-stage game against Goa. In addition to saving Maharashtra from collapse, Ruturaj Gaikwad knock put him and Ankeet Bawane atop the tournament’s all-time centuries list.

Maharashtra’s innings started badly, and they were already eliminated from the tournament going into the match. After losing three wickets for just two runs, the top order crumbled under duress. Then, while wickets kept falling at the other end, Ruturaj Gaikwad steadied the batting. In order to give Maharashtra something to bowl at, he and Vicky Ostwal formed a crucial partnership for the seventh wicket.

Bawane took 94 innings to reach the milestone, whereas Ruturaj Gaikwad did so in just 59.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, who is still undefeated, concluded with an incredible 134 off 131 deliveries, smashing six sixes and eight boundaries to help his team to 249 for seven in the 50 overs they were given. Notably, he tied the long-standing record set by his Maharashtra colleague Ankeet Bawane with his 15th century in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Devdutt Padikkal, who has 14 hundreds in the race, is currently behind him.

Ruturaj Gaikwad became the fastest player to reach the milestone when he scored his 20th List A century in just 95 innings during the innings. In unprecedented time, the 28-year-old reached 5,000 List A runs during the knock. He surpassed Australian great Michael Bevan’s career average with a List A average of 58.83, the highest in the world for players with at least 50 innings. Gaikwad scored his first ODI century in Raipur last month, but he was recently left out of India’s ODI selection for the New Zealand series, so the performance has drawn a lot of attention.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy’s most centuries:

1- Mayank Agarwal – 13

2- Devdutt Padikkal – 13

3- Ankit Bawne – 15

4- Ruturaj Gaikwad – 15*
