Piyush Chawla’s 4/27, which held the opposition to 165/7, earned him Player of the Match. Sherfane Rutherford helped his team over the finish line at the end of the innings, and Phil Salt (35 off 24) and Alex Hales (46 off 39) also contributed to ADKR’s chase down the mark.
At the Zayed Cricket Stadium on Thursday, the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders (ADKR) defeated the Gulf Giants by four wickets, recording their second consecutive victory as the ILT20 playoff race heats up.
In order to keep ADKR in the running for the playoffs, the West Indian scored thirty runs off of twenty-two balls. With six points from that victory, the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders moved up to fourth place in the standings.
The West Indian all-rounder gave his thoughts on the team’s victory:
Although this season hasn’t been the best for the club as a whole, strong teams manage to recover. The men are doing well when it matters most. Different players raise their hands in each game. We’re gaining the momentum we want little by little. Thus, I’m excited for the remaining games.
Additionally, Rutherford provided insight into his strategy and game plan, particularly in the latter part of the innings.
“I was going to use that in my matchup when I looked at the bowling lineup and also the short side of the boundary,” he stated.
Simply put, it was a calculated risk. I obtained three borders, even though my original objective was to try to get at least two. I’m glad we crossed the finish line because that was the game’s pivotal moment’, he continued.
Rutherford summarised the team’s performance for the day by saying,
“Piyush Chawla’s bowling performance tonight was very exceptional. We didn’t win convincingly as a batting unit, but I believe we will win as a team. We want to concentrate on achieving our first objective, which is to make it to the playoffs.
Rutherford emphasised his personal performances thus far this season and expressed his belief that he still has more to offer in the tournament.
“In cricket, nothing is certain. I prepare well for the game, and everything in life happens when it’s supposed to. Going chasing might often make you overly desperate. I’m just attempting to live in the now and let everything find me. “The excellent performance will come,” he said.
Despite being in his debut season with the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Rutherford is an all-around player with a plethora of international experience who has played in other franchise leagues across the world.
“The tournament is fantastic. Being there from the beginning and continuing to play was a great blessing for me. Being in Dubai is always wonderful. It’s a fantastic location with excellent wickets and an amazing vibe. “I hope I can continue, and I’m very excited for the journey,” he said in closing.
On Saturday, the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders will play the third-place MI Emirates at Zayed Cricket Stadium.
