Andre Russell, a former cricket player for the West Indies, has retired from the Indian Premier League. After playing in the IPL for 13 seasons and putting up numerous standout performances, Russell announces his retirement.
Russell stated that he will no longer play in the Indian Premier League. In addition, he disclosed that he preferred to “leave a legacy behind” as opposed to simply fading away.
“Hi, KKR supporters. I’ve decided to retire from the IPL, which is why I’m here today. I will continue to play for all of the other KKR teams as well as in several leagues across the globe. In the IPL, I hit sixes, won games, and won MVP awards, among other wonderful experiences. I believed that this was the best course of action at the time I made it. I want to leave a legacy; I don’t want to disappear. When fans enquire, “Why?” it’s best to retire. You have more left in you.
Instead of saying, “Yeah, you should have done it years ago,” Russell said, “You still could go for a bit longer.”
Russell acknowledged that he would not feel comfortable playing for any other team save KKR after being cut by the team before the IPL 2026 mini auction. He also expressed gratitude to Shah Rukh Khan and Venky Mysore for their unwavering admiration.
“You keep seeing pictures of yourself wearing different jerseys (of other teams) when browsing social media. I had a few sleepless nights because I couldn’t stop thinking about how strange it was to see myself in any hue other than purple and gold. I have discussed another phase of my IPL experience with Mr. Shah Rukh Khan and Mr. Venky Mysore on numerous occasions. Regardless of what I’ve been doing on the pitch, they have loved and respected me’, he continued.
In closing, Russell acknowledged that he would be a fantastic fit for the role of Power Coach and that he was excited to join the team’s coaching staff in the upcoming season.
“I will return to Kolkata. I’m here to announce that, as the new Power Coach in 2026, I will join the KKR support staff. I thought the term “Power Coach” best described Andre Russell because of my batting prowess and my enthusiasm on the pitch when I had the ball. I can contribute in any area. See you soon, then. “Korbo Lorbo Jeetbo,” Russell said in closing.
After joining KKR in 2014, Russell quickly rose to fame. With the three-time champions, he amassed 2593 runs and claimed 122 wickets in 133 games. Russell was a live wire on the field, racking up several blinkers in the outfield in addition to his bat and ball exploits.
