RP Singh dissects Mohsin Khan's match-winning spell against MI as "out-of-the-box."

The Lucknow Super Giants defeated five-time champions Mumbai in a riveting match in Lucknow to move into third place in the IPL 2023 standings. Mohsin Khan, the left-arm pacer for LSG, defended 11 runs in the final over, despite Tim David and Cameron Green being in the middle for Mumbai. Young Indian left-arm pacer Mohsin Khan had a breakout season for the newly formed franchise in the inaugural IPL season. However, a shoulder injury that nearly ended his playing career hindered his development as a player.

In spite of failing to impress upon his return to the competition, the 24-year-old pacer helped his team secure two crucial points against Mumbai. Following his exploits in the final over, former Indian pacer RP Singh commented on Mohsin’s tactics in the final overs. According to the 2007 World Cup champion, the LSG pacer was mixing things up beautifully against the two hard-hitting batters and was reacting to the situation and bowling to the batter’s strengths.

“Mohsin Khan used unconventional bowling techniques. He bowled a length ball, a short good-length delivery, and then a yorker with a more effective strategy. He knew which batters the Yankees would be effective against. Cameron Green is a legitimate batter whose bat speed varies slightly. For Mohsin Khan, brief or adequate length worked well. Sometimes, you must demonstrate your abilities. Nothing can be predetermined. Certain situations require you to rely on your intuition,” RP Singh stated on JioCinema.

Speaking of the losing side, the former left-arm pacer quipped that Ishan Kishan’s dismissal altered the course of the game, as Mumbai were unable to establish a significant partnership after Rohit Sharma and Kishan’s dismissals.

“The urgency increased after Ishan Kishan’s departure. I also believe Nehal Wadhera and Suryakumar Yadav failed to rotate the strike effectively. Nehal wound up playing a large number of dot balls, while Suryakumar Yadav was forced to stand at the runner’s end for some time. Probably he disliked it, and it was likely one of the causes for the loss,” he added.
