Romario Shepherd of the West Indies, an all-rounder, discussed his bowling strategy after his team’s exciting eight-wicket victory over
India in the fifth and final T20I. At the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill on August 13, Rovman Powell and company won 3-2 to win the five-game series.
Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran of the West Indies, who put up a scorching 107-run partnership for the second wicket, received high acclaim from Romario Shepherd. Aside from that, the 28-year-old claimed that in order to get rid of Sanju Samson, he intended to strike the wicket and induce Suryakumar Yadav, who was on the opposite side, to drive the ball straight down the ground in order to grab his wicket. He was notable for taking a total of four wickets for 31 runs, and he ultimately won Player of the Match.
“I’m pleased that we came out on top because that was our intention. Thanks for your excellent play, Nicholas Pooran and Bradon King. I have been hitting my spots and bowling well from the outset to the finish since the last ODI.
“[On bowling strategies] The goal was to hit the wicket and to get Surya to hit straight down the ground, especially to Sanju. “[On the series win] It meant a lot to us especially because we’ve been through some difficult times in the last couple of months, so to win against a team like India it means a lot for us and the fans,” Shepherd remarked at the post-game presentation.
India won the toss and elected to bat first, setting a target of 166 runs. With 61 points off 45 deliveries, Suryakumar Yadav led all scorers for India. Jason Holder and Akeal Hosein both took two wickets for the Windies in addition to Shepherd’s four-wicket haul.
As India chased the mark with 12 balls left, West Indies hitters worried their pacers. The tourists secured one wicket each from Arshdeep Singh and Tilak Varma. The victory was the Caribbean country’s first T20I series triumph over India since 2017.
