Rohit Sharma is determined to demonstrate his form and fitness in the forthcoming ODI series against Australia, according to former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar. Since earlier this year’s 2025 Champions Trophy, Sharma has not represented India.
Bangar likened Sharma present exercise regimen to the one he adopted after being left off of the 2011 World Cup roster. Bangar also believed that Rohit’s mentality had been permanently impacted by being routinely singled out for fitness.
After missing out on the 2011 World Cup, Rohit Sharma last adhered to such a rigorous fitness schedule. That exclusion caused him much pain, and I believe that he is now displaying a comparable level of resolve. Bangar said on JioStar, “He’s had a great and successful career from 2012 to 2024, but being criticised for his fitness has obviously stuck with him, and he has worked hard to address it.”
Rohit was quite capable of throwing himself around on the pitch, according to Bangar, who also pointed out that players and even the captain do not always find themselves fielding in the inner ring.
“His mindset and level of preparation show it. Rohit Sharma is back to being fit and hungry, which is fantastic. It’s not always possible for captains to field inside the 30-yard circle; occasionally, they must patrol the outfield, dive and play field as well.
Rohit appears to be fully preparing for that challenge, which is encouraging,” he continued.
Australia and India’s eight-match white-ball series is scheduled to start on Sunday, October 19. The performance of Sharma will be closely watched. For those who do not know, Rohit was recently relieved of his ODI captaincy, and Shubman Gill took over. Ajit Agarkar made the declaration when the ODI and T20I squad selections were announced.
