Watch: Rohit Sharma's misery with bat continues in Brisbane

On Tuesday, December 17, at the famous Gabba in Brisbane, Rohit Sharma’s troubles with the bat in the longest format continued when he was removed for 10 by Pat Cummins in the seventh over on Day 4.

Inducing a drive from his opposite number, the Australian captain bowled a delivery outside off-stump and on good length. But instead of shifting his feet in the direction of the delivery, Rohit attempted to use his hand-eye coordination to play with his hands. Alex Carey, the wicketkeeper, didn’t require a second invitation behind the stumps when the probing delivery took a thin edge that went clean through.

Rohit Sharma scored two boundaries earlier in the day,

the second of which was a streaky inside edge from Mitchell Starc’s bowling that went beyond the leg stump. The Mumbai batter’s knock was abruptly ended after just 27 balls.

This was another addition to Rohit’s disappointing Test cricket results for the Indian side in 2024–25. Following the ejection, his average fell to 11.69. In the Adelaide second Test, Rohit was removed for three and six in the two innings after missing the first Test due to paternity leave. The 37-year-old would have hoped for a successful performance in the River City, but it was not to be.

After Rohit’s wicket fell, India lost half of their team. The visitors were down to 74 runs when the veteran was removed. This followed a tough 30-run partnership between Rohit and KL Rahul. On Day 4, the latter could have been out for 33 off the opening ball. Rahul survived to fight on, though, after Steve Smith missed a routine chance off Cummins.

Rahul continued to score his 17th half-century in Test cricket. The Karnataka hitter will seek assistance from the other end to help India escape the follow-on as he stays at the crease.
