Reports of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav wanting to quit Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2025 have caught the cricket fraternity by storm.

Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav might quit Mumbai Indians before IPL 2025

The Mumbai Indians (MI) could face two significant blows if recent reports about the potential departure of two of their most famous players—Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav—before the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 are to be believed.

The five-time champions Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar may be going, and the reigning champion Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) may bid on them in the big auction that is set for the next year, according to Dainik Jagran.

The Mumbai Indians have difficult times in the current IPL season. Last year, they signed Hardik Pandya before the Gujarat Titans’ auction. But when the Baroda all-rounder took over for hometown icon Rohit at the helm, supporters were left unhappy. During the tournament, there were rumours of animosity between Hardik and players like Rohit, Suryakumar, and Jasprit Bumrah. MI finished last in the points table while the 30-year-old was captain because the team was unable to play cohesively.

The MI management had high hopes of turning things around in the IPL 2025, but they would have a lot of shoes to fill if Rohit and Suryakumar left. The Mumbai supporters shouldn’t worry too much, though, as no formal word about the departures has been received as of yet.

Rohit Sharma may play in the IPL 2025 for the Delhi Capitals or Gujarat Titans if he decides to quit the Mumbai Indians. The Titans finished second last year and won the league in 2022. That being said, in Shubman Gill’s debut IPL season as captain, they came in eighth this year. Under Rishabh Pant’s direction, the Delhi Capitals managed to finish this season ranked No. 6.

While this is going on, Pant might decide to join Chennai Super Kings instead of the Delhi Capitals since Delhi is apparently not pleased with Pant’s play. Additionally, KL Rahul may depart from the Lucknow Super Giants to become the captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), which is led by Virat Kohli. In the last three iterations of the lucrative league, Faf du Plessis has guided RCB, but he hasn’t been able to lead them to their elusive maiden championship.
