With a clever comment directed at England’s poor Ashes 2025–26 campaign against Australia, former Indian captain Rohit Sharma injected humour and astute analysis to an occasion in Gurugram. The Mumbai batsman used England’s 3-0 deficit after crushing losses in Perth, Brisbane, and Adelaide to illustrate the harshness of Test cricket in Australia.
With an 82-run victory in the third Test, Australia completed the series, matching the fastest Ashes series decision in almost a century and demonstrating their supremacy at home once more. Rohit discussed how challenging it is for touring teams to thrive in Australia, particularly considering the country’s reputation as a fortress, drawing a comparison with India’s historic 2021 victory at the Gabba.
Rohit used the occasion to highlight how remarkable India’s accomplishment was by bringing up Rishabh Pant’s iconic game-winning innings and Tim Paine’s pre-match remarks, recalling India’s injury-plagued squad and the presence of debutants during that tour.

“Aap England ko puch hi sakte ho, aap Australia mein khelna sabse hai.” “Ask England; playing in Australia is the hardest,” Rohit remarked at the Master’s Union convocation.
As England attempts to salvage pride in the final two Ashes Test matches and prevent a 5-0 whitewash, their fourth such result in Ashes history, Rohit’s comment swiftly gained traction in cricket circles and fuelled fan banter. Following Rohit’s own impressive run in Australia, when he scored a commanding ODI century in October, the humorous troll further solidified his standing as one of cricket’s most direct and vocal voices.
Apart from the jokes, Rohit is part of Mumbai’s team for the opening match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025–26. All-rounder Shardul Thakur led the team when the competition got underway in December 2024 at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. On December 24, Mumbai will play Sikkim, and on December 26, they will play Uttarakhand.
Before returning to the Indian team for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand in January, Rohit has announced that he will be available for the first few games. The 2018–19 season was Vijay Hazare’s final complete season, and he was instrumental in helping Mumbai win the championship with a game-winning, undefeated knock against Bihar in the quarterfinals.
