Rohit Sharma surpasses 17000 international runs in the Ahmedabad Test between India and Australia.

During the ongoing fourth Test against Australia in Ahmedabad, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma exceeded 17000 international runs. The Indian opener is the sixth Indian and the 28th batsman overall to attain the landmark in international competition.

Rohit Sharma reached the milestone in Mitchell Starc’s over during the morning session of the third day after smacking the left-arm pacer for two boundaries and a six off three deliveries. The flashy opener has amassed 2000 Test runs on home soil and is second only to former Indian captain Mohammed Azharudeen in terms of speed.

Australia’s plan to test the Indian batters with short balls backfired in the morning session, as India got off to a tremendous start. Both Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma found Mitchell Starc to their liking and scored freely against the left-arm bowler. However, the opening stand of 74 runs was abruptly ended when the Indian captain was dismissed by Matthew Kuhnemann.

The wicket occurred against the run of play as Rohit Sharma appeared to be well on his way to a big score, but the ball slowed him down and forced him to play the ball in the air.

Marnus Labuschagne, who was stationed at short cover-point in the second innings of the fourth Test, seized the opportunity to score the first run for Australia. Meanwhile, Nathan Lyon appears menacing from the other end, particularly against Shubman Gill, who has had several near calls against the experienced Australian off-spinner.
