During the launch of the book “The Diary of a Cricketer’s Wife,” which was written by Pujara’s wife, Puja Pujara, India ODI captain Rohit Sharma recently talked anecdotally about senior Test cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara.
Rohit recalled a moment from India throughout the occasion. Pujara was questioned if the book had any mention of a 2012 trip of the West Indies. Cheteshwar Pujara responded by sharing a startling story of how he was robbed one evening while he was out getting dinner.
“I haven’t disclosed. She is aware, of course, but she is unaware of the specifics. I don’t eat meat. At night, we were searching for a vegetarian supper. At eleven in the evening, we headed out in Trinidad and Tobago, or T&T. We failed to locate the lunch, but I was robbed on the way back. According to Mid Day, Pujara stated, “I can’t tell you in detail about it, but that’s the story he is referring to.”
Rohit clarified that he had in fact cautioned Cheteshwar Pujara against going out at night and characterised the latter as obstinate.
The story’s lesson is that he can be obstinate. We informed him. We cautioned him against going out at night. Avoid leaving the house after 9 p.m. Rohit acknowledged, “This is the West Indies.”
He used to get teased by us for running: Rohit Sharma
The cricketer, who was born in Rajkot, was also commended by Rohit for his mental toughness and fortitude, particularly for recovering from multiple severe injuries sustained throughout his playing career. They would frequently make fun of Cheteshwar Pujara sprinting style, he said, yet he went on to play more than 100 Test matches for India.
“A lot of respect goes to him for how he managed to play more than 100 Test matches for India after we used to make fun of his running style and other things. He played the sport with a great deal of enthusiasm and dedication, Rohit said.
One of the hardest series was BGT 2017: Pujara
Cheteshwar Pujara considered the 2016–17 Border-Gavaskar Trophy match against Australia to be one of the most difficult series he had ever played in, reflecting on the demanding aspect of international cricket. It required a lot of the players, he said.
One of the most difficult Test series I’ve ever played in was in 2017, when India was bowled out for about 200 runs against Australia. “The team didn’t perform well in the first innings of this second Test match at Bangalore, and we were in trouble again in the second innings. However, I talked to Anil (Kumble) bhai about how to tackle Nathan Lyon, and he came up with a technical suggestion,” Cheteshwar Pujara said.
