[WATCH] Rohit Sharma presents runner-up medal to Shreyas Iyer after T20 Mumbai 2025 final

Following the Sobo Mumbai Falcons’ (SMF) five-wicket defeat to the Mumbai South Central Maratha Royal (MSCMR) in the final at the Wankhede Stadium on June 12, 2025, Rohit Sharma, the face of the Mumbai T20 League, presented Shreyas Iyer with the runners-up cash and medal at the ceremony. The Player of the Match award went to MSCMR’s Chinmay Sutar for his game-winning knock.

SMF posted 157 on the board after being asked to bat first. The best batter, Mayuresh Tandel, scored 50 runs off of 32. He was assisted by Harsh Aghav, who scored an undefeated 45 off 28. Iyer scored 12 off 17 in a disappointing batting performance.

Sutar led MSCMR’s innings as they chased 158, scoring 53 off 49 to end the run chase. As the chasing team won the match by five wickets with four balls remaining, he was assisted by Awais Khan Naushad’s 38 off 24.

In the post-match conference after the game, Rohit Sharma presented the players with their prize.

Iyer talked to him after the game and gave him a look at the busy past few weeks. He did not blame anyone for his team’s defeat and praised the supporters for coming to the game. Even though the loss was painful, Iyer insisted that the Falcons will learn from their mistakes and return strong the following season.

“With two finals in ten days, it’s quite crazy. You think about it a lot, especially when you lose. It was amazing to witness how many people showed up. It was thrilling across the stadium. I sincerely appreciate your attendance and support (fans). I don’t want to name specific incidents. Iyer stated, “It’s just a one-time game where you can’t blame anyone—it’s essentially backstabbing, and I don’t like that.”

“A lot has been learnt. It’s quite normal to feel down after losing the championship game. They must have been hurt. They will be more motivated and self-assured when they return the next year. Their efforts should make them feel proud. It’s difficult to perform in front of 20,000 people when you don’t have much experience. I’ve done that and been there. Iyer said, as cited by Cricbuzz, “You tend to make mistakes when your nerves get the better of you, but it teaches you a lot and you come back stronger.”
