'I was desperate to get a wicket' - Rohit Sharma on his 'Garden mein nahi ghoomna' dialogue

The famous phrase “Koi Garden mein nahi ghoomega” has a backstory, which Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma has now revealed. During the second Test match against England in February 2024 at Visakhapatnam, Rohit was heard on the stump mic asking his squad to play with greater vigour.

The famous Indian batsman eventually revealed what started the discussion that came to be associated with him more than a year after the incident.

Since it was a pivotal moment in the game, Rohit Sharma revealed that he expects his team to give it their best on the pitch.

I noticed the over ended and the players strolling idly, as though they were in a garden, in Vizag. There was no hurry in the field, and nobody was rushing. We had spinners bowling from both ends as I was fielding in the slip. The game was crucial, we had to win, and it was hanging by a thread. We need to work harder, I told the players in the morning, but they were enjoying themselves on the pitch’, Rohit posted on JioHotstar.

Additionally, Rohit Sharma revealed that his teammates needed to be more active because India was in dire need of a wicket at that stage of the game. After winning the match by 106 runs, India tied the five-match series at one.

After watching it for two or three overs, I concluded that this was not how cricket should be played and that it could not continue. I was upset that everyone was just following the crowd, so I told them to stop. There was a collaboration going on, and I was itching to get out. In these situations, everyone must work together. I didn’t like how everyone was preoccupied with themselves at the time,” he continued.
