Rohit Sharma on Contemplating Retirement

Rohit Sharma on Contemplating Retirement

During the 2023 ODI World Cup, Rohit Sharma excelled as the team’s captain and an outstanding batter. India defeated Australia in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad after winning ten straight games. But in the summit match, Pat Cummins’s Australia won the championship, defeating the Men in Blue.

Rohit Sharma was asked how he handled losing the match at a recent event. The entire team was dissatisfied with the outcome, according to the former India captain. Speaking about his own response, the 38-year-old claimed that it took him a long time to heal because he had given his all to earn the nation’s treasured crown.

“We couldn’t believe what had happened, and everyone was terribly sad. For me personally, it was a very difficult period since I had given that World Cup everything I had, not only in the two or three months leading up to it, but since I became the captaincy in 2022. Whether it was the 2023 World Cup or the T20 World Cup, my sole objective was to win. As the main guest at the Masters Union in Gurgaon, Rohit said, “I was absolutely devastated when it didn’t happen.”

My body had run out of energy. I needed a few months to heal and re-establish myself. I suppose it’s a fairly normal reaction when you put a lot of effort into something and don’t get the desired outcome. That’s precisely what occurred to me. However, I was also aware that life goes on. “I learnt a lot about how to deal with disappointment, reset, and start over,” Rohit Sharma continued.

It required a great deal of effort, time, and introspection to return: Rohit Sharma

After considering retiring from the sport after the final disaster, Rohit claimed that a lot of energy and introspection helped him get back on track. With the 2024 T20 World Cup less than a year away, Rohit was able to turn his attention away from the loss.

“I had to put all of my attention on the 2024 T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies because I knew that something else was coming up. Saying this today is so simple, but it was quite challenging at the time. There was a time when I genuinely thought I had nothing left to give up playing this sport since it had drained me of everything. To recover, it required a lot of effort, time, and introspection,” Rohit Sharma remarked.

“I kept telling myself that this is something I genuinely love, that it was in front of me, and that I couldn’t let it pass so quickly. I gradually found my way back to exerting myself, getting my energy back, and getting back on the pitch,” he continued.

Rohit Sharma: My life was difficult in the beginning. But once I boarded the plane the altitude it reached has never come down. And I don’t want that plane to land anytime soon. I want to stay up there.
