AUS vs IND: Rohit Sharma mysteriously omitted from India's 16-man team sheet for Sydney Test

In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT 2024–25), India captain Rohit Sharma was left out of the starting lineup for the Sydney Test match against Australia. But even more shocking to many was the fact that Rohit’s name was left off of the 16-man roster for the match in Sydney.

In the BGT 2024–25, Rohit Sharma scored just 31 runs in five innings, indicating his recent poor form.

The captain was benched for the series’ final Test. Although it was well anticipated that Rohit would miss the fifth test, the fact that his name is not even on the team sheet has raised questions about whether he will be the second player to retire in the series.

Notably, Rohit was unable to attend the opening Test of the series since his second child was born. Due to his inability to perform for India since his return in the second Test, Rohit was rested for the fifth Test.

Regretfully, professional sports are like that: Mark Taylor,

In a recent statement, former Australian cricketer Mark Taylor criticised India for using the phrase “resting Rohit Sharma for the fifth Test.” Taylor’s remarks followed the announcement by stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah that Rohit had chosen to take a break from the Border-Gavaskar Trophy final Test.

To tell the truth, that’s what I call that. Again, that is avoiding the issue. In the end, a nation’s skipper does not choose to skip the series’ last important Test match. He has been dropped, and I’m not sure why they choose not to disclose it. He is missing this game because he is not playing well, but it does not imply he has been dropped forever. Taylor told Triple M Cricket, “Unfortunately, that is a part of professional sports.”
