In Test cricket, Rohit Sharma must realize that he should attack: Dinesh Karthik

Ollie Pope was able to switch up his attacking style with ease since India captain Rohit Sharma had established defensive fields to halt the run flow during that phase and the Day 4 morning session. Notably, India lost the plot during the third session of Day 3 thanks to a 112-run stand between Pope and Ben Foakes that allowed them to push their lead to 85 runs.

At Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, England surprised India by defeating the hosts by 28 runs on the fourth day of the first Test of the five-match series. Despite being behind by 190 runs early in the first inning, England pulled off an incredible victory thanks to a valiant 196 from Ollie Pope (278). Later, rookie Tom Hartley scored 7/62 to put England on the verge of victory when India was bowled out for 202, trying to reach 230.

Dinesh Karthik, a former cricket player who is now a broadcaster, expressed his opinion about India’s performance and said that Rohit Sharma should take the initiative as captain of the team in the second Test by not letting bowlers create a field by themselves.

“India’s bowling was undoubtedly subpar. The one thing that Rohit Sharma must do in the upcoming Test match is refuse to take the fielding that the bowler is offering. I have frequently witnessed bowlers attempt to be more defensive than is necessary. Karthik told Cricbuzz, “He needs to encourage the bowlers to set slightly attacking fields, at least for the opposition bowlers and batters who have just walked in.”

Speaking ahead of time, Karthik advised pressing harder against the tailenders and making it difficult for them to rotate the strike.

“Rohit Sharma must realize that in Test cricket, attacking and demonstrating intent with the ball are equally as important as his batting.

On a turning pitch, a No. 9 or No. 10 hitter cannot readily take singles. He ought not to let that happen. That’s when you have to step up, and they failed to do so with the ball there, Karthik continued.

Ravindra Jadeja and KL Rahul are out of the second test.

In the meantime, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have been ruled out of the second Test, which is set to start in Visakhapatnam on Friday, February 2. On Day 4 of the first game, Jadeja hurt his hamstring, and Rahul reported having soreness in his right quadriceps. Sarfaraz Khan, Washington Sundar, and Saurabh Kumar have been named by the BCCI as the replacements.
