In the Boxing Day Test against South Africa in Centurion, India’s captain Rohit Sharma isn’t impressed with his pacers. As the hosts scored 408 runs in the second innings, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Prasidh Krishna each took one wicket but let up a lot of runs. Jasprit Bumrah, on the other hand, took four wickets and was the most effective player with the ball. Apart from Virat Kohli, none of the Indian hitters were able to contribute, resulting in a humiliating inning and a 32-run loss for the Rohit Sharma-led team.
The captain said that Bumrah didn’t receive much backing after the loss and clarified that the wicket wasn’t 400 runs. South Africa bowled India twice in just 101.5 overs, so he said the squad should take a cue from them and expect the other pacers to come up and play their responsibilities.
“We gave too many runs, and this was not a 400-run wicket.” Although we blasted the ball everywhere, it still occurs. The other three pacers, including Bumrah, have to fulfill their responsibilities as well; we might take a cue from the way South Africa bowled.
“We all know how good Bumrah is, and he bowled superbly. He didn’t get the backing he needed, which was all he asked for. That occurs. We all made a lot of effort and bent our backs, but the outcome wasn’t what we had hoped for. However, playing games like these helps you learn a lot about your goals as a bowling team, according to an NDTV comment from Rohit.

Even though Rohit acknowledged that Prasidh is undercooked, he also pointed out that because of some pacers’ injuries, he was able to have a crack because the circumstances fit his bowling style. The 36-year-old went on to say that the pacer has everything he needs to be successful in red-ball cricket, save for having to develop his mental toughness.
He is obviously a little inexperienced. With the tools at his disposal, he can come out and play the game. Naturally, looking at the bowlers we have back in India, some of them are injured and some are not available, so we tried to select those who were available, taking the conditions into consideration,” he said.
“I absolutely agree that Krishna hasn’t played a lot of red ball cricket, but three other guys on their team haven’t played a lot either, but they still showed what was needed. I believe it is more in the mind than in the legs. When the chance arises, take it with gratitude and show up to work for the team. Naturally, it didn’t work out well for him, and as it was his first game, we could all understand that he would have been anxious as well,” the captain said.
