The opening match of the forthcoming ODI series is set for Friday, August 2, and Indian captain Rohit Sharma is currently in Sri Lanka for it. This will be Rohit’s first international match following India’s triumphant T20 World Cup in the USA and Caribbean.
For the uninitiated, the seasoned cricket player had given up playing Twenty20 international matches following the World Cup, and he made it official immediately following the thrilling match against South Africa. In keeping with his light-hearted nature, Rohit did, however, make an appearance in a video that was released prior to the first ODI in Colombo and was dubbed a throwback to the month following the victory in Barbados.
After winning the championship as the captain of the Indian team, Rohit said that the last month had been unreal and that he was feeling extremely happy. The Nagpur native also made light of the idea of returning to Twenty20 Internationals, but he quickly clarified that he had had enough of the format and that his current priorities still lay with One-Dayers and Tests.
“What a fantastic month it was! Mazaa Hi Aa Gaya. Engraved with history, flooded with recollections. It’s a moment that will never come again. I still feel like I can put my pads on whenever I want for the shortest format because of how much so (laughs). I had my time, Chhodo Bhai, but Nahi Yaar. In the video that BCCI posted to social media, Rohit stated, “I enjoyed it, (and) it’s time to move on.”
