Rohit Sharma is still not over his T20I retirement, saying, 'Feel like I have been rested for a series'

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian ODI team, recently talked about his retirement from T20 Internationals and offered his opinions on the change and the future of Indian cricket. Prior to the ODI series versus Sri Lanka, Sharma gave some thoughts on his outlook and the T20 team’s path under the new captain.

Sharma declared his retirement from Twenty20 internationals after India defeated South Africa in the June T20 World Cup final. For one of India’s most successful Twenty20 players, who was a member of the team that won the first T20 World Cup in 2007, this choice signalled the end of an era. The seasoned batter acknowledged that he hasn’t quite accepted his T20I retirement.

“I currently feel like I’ve been rested for a series, just as I used to in the past, and we have to prepare for T20Is again because there are huge tournaments coming up. At the pre-game press conference, he stated, “I don’t think I am completely out because I still feel like that.”

Allow Suryakumar Yadav to work a little bit more: Rohit Sharma

He also discussed the future of Indian T20 cricket, highlighting Suryakumar Yadav’s guidance as the squad won the series 3-0 against Sri Lanka. Regarding Yadav’s captaincy, Sharma provided a another viewpoint.

“Surya’s first few innings as the T20I skipper. “Good start, but give him a little more time to finish the task,” he said.

For the first time since Australia’s defeat in the 2023 World Cup final, veterans Virat Kohli and Sharma will be playing in the ODI series. Expectations are high for sustained dominance in the 50-over format as India is poised to surpass Sri Lanka to win 100 ODI matches, a milestone no team has ever achieved against a single opponent.
