After winning the T20 World Cup in 2024, Rohit Sharma explains why he ate a bit of dirt
Following a devastating defeat in the ODI World Cup final in 2023, Rohit Sharma threw himself into winning the T20 World Cup in 2024.

His aggressive style of cricket helped India win its fourth world championship, two in the ODI and T20I formats. He led from the front. Following the match, the Indian captain was inconsolable, and he was later seen in Kensington Oval, Barbados, eating a particle of dirt.

Rohit explained why, saying it was something that readily came to him even though it wasn’t anything he had previously considered. He continued by saying that he would always remember the Barbados ground because it contributed to India’s victory in the Twenty20 World Cup. The 37-year-old said that it was a dream come true for him and that he had a piece of it with him.

Nothing was preplanned; everything flowed naturally. I was in the moment because we won the game on that specific surface, which is why we were awarded the T20 World Cup. I will always remember that pitch and that particular ground. I thus desired to carry a portion of it with me. I wanted a piece of that location, where all our wishes came true, because those are really, very special moments. That was the motivation behind it, Rohit stated in a BCCI-released video.
