‘KL Rahul deserves the spot’- Rohit Sharma confirms to bat in middle order in 2nd Test vs Australia

In the second Test match against Australia in Adelaide, which is scheduled to start on December 6, India skipper Rohit Sharma has announced that he will bat in the middle order. He stated that KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s tandem performed admirably in the first game in Perth, and for the same reason, he has no intention of changing it. Notably, the visitors won by a huge 295 runs thanks to a fantastic opening combination of 201 runs between Jaiswal and Rahul in the first Test.

Before the second Test, there were rumours that Rahul could return to number six, where he had played the most in the previous two years, and Rohit would return to opener. Rahul opened while Rohit batted at number four in place of Virat Kohli during the warm-up match against the Prime Minister’s XI in Canberra. On the eve of the second Test, Rohit corroborated the initial signal that India was considering the skipper batting in the middle order.

Indeed, KL Rahul is going to bat first. Somewhere in the middle will be where I bat. The way KL bats overseas, he deserves that slot right now. I watched from home with a newborn baby in my arms, and he performed well, so there’s no need to alter now, even though things might change in the future,” Rohit remarked during the press conference.

Although he hasn’t batted there in a while, the captain also stated that he is prepared to do so for the squad, so it was not an easy option for him.

We probably won the Test match thanks to our partnership with KL and Jaiswal; I don’t think we needed to change that. It was simple for me, and it made sense for the team,” Rohit continued.
