Khaleel Ahmed, a left-arm bowler, recently told a memorable story about Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma and said he hopes the batting legend would play for the next ten years.
With numerous IPL titles, ICC awards, and game-winning knocks, Rohit’s career has been full of accomplishments. But his care of colleagues, particularly in trying situations, is what frequently makes him stand out. Khaleel, an IPL player for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), has observed this aspect of Rohit up close. The pacer recounted an incident from 2019 that altered his outlook on self-assurance and faith.
“There have been both positive and negative parts to the voyage. I made my debut in the Asia Cup in 2018–19, when Rohit Sharma was my captain.
Despite the fact that I was his junior, he gave me a lot of confidence and helped me realise that I had a unique quality. I felt more confident when this accomplished cricket player took the time to speak with me and give me advice. You don’t really know what you have or what you should do with yourself when you’re that age. After that, I played for India for a year and a half, and my final match was an ODI against the West Indies in 2019. He told RevSportz that the following two years were filled with injuries.
Khaleel had a difficult time with the ball during a Twenty20 International series against Bangladesh in Rajkot. He just took one wicket. Rohit Sharma lingered to speak with the young pacer one-on-one as the squad was ready to depart the stadium. During the Duleep Trophy, Khaleel also met Rohit at the National Cricket Academy and was pleased with his level of fitness. According to him, the batter can play Indian cricket for another ten years.
“My personal opinion is that Rohit Sharma should continue playing for the next ten years in order to benefit Indian cricket. When I had a bad day and only took one wicket during a 2019 series against Bangladesh in Rajkot, he approached me and had a personal conversation with me in the dressing room. He stayed behind to speak with me one-on-one and give me advice as the squad was departing the stadium. “I am not aware of my own capabilities,” he said. “All of this should happen for you too,” he told me as we were leaving the stadium, as all the supporters were yelling for Rohit bhai. “I should wish that for myself and stay positive,” he continued.
