Rohit Sharma breaks the record for the most sixes in international cricket at the CWC in 2023.

At the ninth match of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 against Afghanistan on Wednesday, October 11, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, India’s skipper Rohit Sharma broke numerous records. The first hitter entered the field in fifth gear and immediately went into beast mode against the Afghan bowlers.

Rohit Sharma first reached the 1000-run mark in the ODI World Cup in 19 innings, which made him the co-fastest batsman to do so. Before him, David Warner, the Australian team’s starting pitcher against India, accomplished the same feat. He further cemented his place in history by pulling Naveen ul Haq over deep square leg for a maximum, setting a record for the most sixes in international cricket. Rohit moved to the top of the record after surpassing Chris Gayle’s total of 553 international sixes. In 473 innings of international cricket, Rohit has now smashed 556 sixes.

The Indian opener went on to score 131 off 84 balls, striking 16 fours and five sixes in the process. He also recorded the quickest hundred by an Indian hitter in the ODI World Cup during his innings, reaching the mark in just 63 balls. In the 2007 World Cup match against Bermuda, Virender Sehwag accomplished the record in 81 balls, leaving Rohit in his wake.

The most centuries in ODI World Cup history are scored by Rohit Sharma.

The 36-year-old went on to break the three-figure mark for the seventh time in the history of the competition, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of six hundreds and becoming the batsman with the greatest amount of hundreds in the history of the ODI World Cup.

In addition, Rohit moved up to third place in the list of players with the most ODI hundreds after scoring his 31st century in the format, passing Ricky Ponting, who has 30 centuries to his credit. India was able to chase down the goal of 273 in just 35 overs and win the match by eight wickets thanks to his outstanding effort. The Indian skipper, who assisted his team in earning their second victory of the competition, was rightfully named Player of the Match.
