IND vs ENG: On the first day of the Rajkot Test, Rohit Sharma breaks MS Dhoni's record for most sixes.

At the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, on the first day of the third Test match against England, Rohit Sharma made history with an incredible performance of power hitting. In addition to scoring a vital boundary for India, the right-hand hitter also eclipsed previous captain MS Dhoni’s record for sixes.

Rohit broke Dhoni’s record of 78 Test century runs with his second six of the innings. With an astounding 91 hits, former opener Virender Sehwag still maintains the record for the most sixes by an Indian in Test cricket, something spectators should keep in mind as they reflect on the explosive innings.

Beyond the red-ball format, Rohit’s skill is unmatched; as an international cricket player, he is the most frequent six-hitter. His supremacy in the power-hitting department is demonstrated by his 590 maximums combined in Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. Interestingly, he tops the T20I charts with 190 sixes in 143 innings, and he finishes third in ODIs with 323 maximums in 254 innings.

Nevertheless, with an astounding 128 maximums in 179 innings, England’s explosive captain Ben Stokes now owns the record for the most sixes in Test history. Adam Gilchrist and Brendon McCullum trail him closely.

In terms of the most sixes an Indian has ever struck in a Test match, Rohit Sharma currently sits second on the record with 79 sixes in 97 innings, only behind the prolific Virender Sehwag.

According to Jay Shah, Rohit Sharma will captain India in the 2024 T20 World Cup.

With a recent statement expressing faith in Sharma’s leadership, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah put a stop to rumors over India’s T20 captaincy. Shah praised India’s performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup, even though they lost in the final, while speaking at the opening of the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. He expressed his conviction that India will win the next Twenty20 World Cup in 2024, with Sharma leading the team.

“People had been waiting for me to talk about the 2023 ODI World Cup. We might have lost the ODI World Cup final in 2023. However, by winning hearts, we managed to win ten straight games. At the naming ceremony of Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, Jay Shah declared, “I am confident that India will win the 2024 T20I World Cup under Rohit Sharma.”
