Rohit Sharma begins prep for SA ODIs in Mumbai

In preparation for the forthcoming home series against South Africa, India’s batting mainstay Rohit Sharma began his training. India’s next overseas assignment after their tour of Australia is a three-match ODI series that starts in Ranchi on November 30. Rohit Sharma now only plays in One-Day Internationals, thus his few outings have made every training glimpse noteworthy.

As he looks to stay in the format until the 2027 ODI World Cup, Rohit, who earlier this year led India to a Champions Trophy success, keeps improving. In the ODI series against Australia, he last played and won Player of the Series after scoring 202 runs in three innings, including a historic century at the Sydney Cricket Ground. In order to maintain match fitness, the 37-year-old has returned to his home field as the South Africa series draws near.

Rohit Sharma was observed doing moderate drills and conditioning routines at the BKC Ground, the site of Mumbai’s current Ranji Trophy match versus Himachal Pradesh. He didn’t bat in the nets for about thirty minutes, but he did sprints and some warm-up exercises.

Rohit Sharma spoke with a number of Mumbai players, according to sources on the field.

Players must assume some accountability: Steve Waugh

Also seen conversing with his former Mumbai teammates, such as bowling coach Dhawal Kulkarni and Atul Ranade, was the former captain of India. Rohit watched the reserve bowlers’ net practice from the sidelines, while Kulkarni managed it.

Rohit kept his practice brief as people flocked to the stadium to see the star batter. In a Ranji Trophy match against Jammu and Kashmir earlier this year, Rohit played his final domestic cricket match for Mumbai at this very location.

Steve Waugh, a former Australian captain, said that players like Virat Kohli and Rohit need to accept some responsibility and understand that the game is about more than just them. Despite their impressive performance during the recent tour of Australia, he also asked them to be cautious about their future.

Realizing that the game is bigger than the player and accepting some responsibility are necessary. The game cannot be elevated above you. “You must understand that the game progresses and that someone else will replace you,” Waugh told Vimal Kumar.
