After a decline in form, Rohit Sharma believes Virat Kohli will play in the World Cup final, "probably saving for the finals."

In the T20 World Cup 2024, Rohit Sharma put an end to his bad run at the bat with a brilliant 92 off 41 balls against Australia on June 24. At the Providence Stadium in Guyana on June 27, during India’s semifinal 2 match against England, the country’s opener has now entered the pantheon of Indian captains with the most runs scored across all forms. As the squad lost two early wickets against the English, Rohit carried on with his onslaught.

Both Rishabh Pant and Virat Kohli were removed from the game for four and nine runs, respectively, as they both continued to have poor World Cup performances. Before the rain stopped play, the Hitman took the responsibility and scored a crucial 37 runs off of 26 balls. As he did so, he became the fifth cricket player to reach the 5000-run mark while serving as captain of India.

As the former captain of India, Kohli tops the chart with 12883 runs. The legendary captain, MS Dhoni, comes in second with 11,207 runs, followed by Mohammad Azharuddin, who has 8095 runs in third place. The Prince of Kolkata, Sourav Ganguly, holds the fourth position with 7643 runs scored as the Indian captain. It is noteworthy that, in contrast to his peers, Rohit has had a very short tenure as a leader.

As India’s captain, Rohit Sharma has dominated the T20I format.

Regarding Rohit’s accomplishment, as a captain he has already amassed 5013 runs in various formats. Of those runs, 1876 have primarily come in the game’s shortest versions. It is the right-handed batter’s 37th consecutive game without a loss. Furthermore, Rohit has led the Indian squad in just 16 games, which makes his accomplishment deserving of careful examination.

In the T20 World Cup knockout stages, India’s Rohit Sharma became the first captain to score fifty goals.
